The New Year brings in an exciting, extended season for the Dunes Summer Theatre. Board members and volunteers have been diligently working behind the scenes to bring seven shows to the stage this summer, along with six concerts so patrons can enjoy entertainment every weekend.
The new show season, to be announced soon, brings a mixture of musicals, thrillers, and family fun for audiences of all ages. Most shows will run for three weeks this season per audience demand. Top directors from around the region will join us as we once again strive to wow audiences from both near and far.
This summer we will also host two Children's and Youth classes designed for young actors who want to hone their improvisation and acting skills on stage. Organized by our Education Coordinator and equity actor Holly Schroeder, these six-week classes aim to improve vocal projection, articulation, timing, listening skills, confidence and grace. For more information on our summer classes, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
This summer will again bring more improvements to the facility as we aggressively seek funding and volunteers to continue revitalization efforts. Our first project enlists the help of budding Eagle Scouts seeking a new badge on their way to achieving one of the highest levels offered through the Boy Scouts of America. These enterprising young men will work side-by-side various board members and Scout leaders to construct much needed shelving units behind the stage. They also will construct a safe and secure bonfire pit for audiences to enjoy after the show.
We're extremely proud of the work we accomplished last summer. Improvements ranged from massive facility upgrades to a more robust summer show schedule which boosted audience attendance more than 900% from the previous season. This was not only good news for the theatre, but also the local economy. Area restaurants, retail outlets, casinos, local airports, hotels, banks and gas stations all benefited from our audience growth as we drew people in from as far away as California, Nevada, Utah, Florida, Arkansas, Wyoming, and of course, our neighbors from Illinois, Michigan and Ohio. As news of our work spreads, we anticipate this season will bring additional patrons to the theatre, which will impact the local economy even more.
As we prepare for our opening acts, we welcome any and all volunteers who want to help us in our efforts. By working together we can improve not just the economy, but quality of life experiences in the region.
Volunteers are needed to assist with cabin maintenance, Playbill ad sales, ushering, set construction, fundraising efforts, and general clean up. Or if you prefer to bake, we're always in need of some great home made cookies! if you are interested in volunteering or purchasing an ad in our Playbills, please email email@example.com or call us at (219) 879-7509. With the help of the community, this gem in the woods will shine bright throughout the region this summer.
We look forward to seeing you at the theatre!
